INDEPENDENT DEVELOPER / GAME TECH

I build games.
I build the tech behind them.

I'm Mario, a software developer who enjoys making games, exploring game technology and solving the tricky problems that come with it.

I work on game engines and networking, but I also build software beyond games.

01 PERSONAL PROJECTS

Things I'm building.

I spend a lot of time on my own projects, especially when there's an interesting technical challenge to solve. Here are a few things I'm working on.

GAME ENGINEERING

A game engine from scratch

I'm developing a game engine from scratch, with the aim of running games on desktop, mobile and console. A lot of the work happens under the hood, and that's every bit as interesting to me as the games themselves.

CONNECTED SYSTEMS

Multiplayer & networking

I'm working on networking technology for real-time games and connected applications, focusing on reliable communication between clients and servers.

SOFTWARE ENGINEERING

Software beyond games

Alongside games, I build software systems that include backend services, APIs, applications and integrations. I enjoy working out how the pieces fit together and making sure the result is maintainable.

✳ These projects are still in development. I'll share more details and demos as they're ready.

02 WHAT I DO

I enjoy solving
the tricky parts.

I like taking a project from a rough idea to something that works. That might mean designing the architecture, building game technology, or figuring out how the backend and client should talk to each other.

Software architecture

Designing systems from scratch, making decisions about boundaries and trade-offs, and keeping the whole thing understandable as it grows.

01

Game development & engine tech

Working on the engine, tools and platform details that make a game run—not just the part players see.

02

Networking & backend systems

Building the services and communication that let applications work together, including real-time software.

03

Full-stack problem solving

I move between APIs, integrations, mobile apps and other parts of a system as the project needs.

03 A BIT ABOUT ME

Games came first.
Then I started making them.

My first gaming memories involve an Atari 800 and the patience it took to load games from cassette tapes. Before long, I wanted to make games of my own. On early PCs, I started writing small experiments in Pascal and QuickBASIC. They were simple, but they got me interested in what was happening behind the screen.

Software development became my profession, and since 2006 I've worked on all sorts of applications and systems. My professional work has a strong C#/.NET and Microsoft foundation, while my own projects let me dig into games, engine technology and networking.

GameDev Mario is where those interests meet: making games, exploring the technology behind them, and trying ideas out for myself. Most of the focus is on my own projects, but I'm also open to good collaborations and freelance work.

04 TABLETOP GAMES

Some games are better around a table.

I enjoy designing board games as well as digital ones. I like working out the rules, balancing player choices, and figuring out how the board, cards and pieces fit together.

I’m interested in the whole process, from the first prototype to a finished game people can sit down and play.
